Marlin Nabors has been named associate vice provost and dean of students

Marlin Nabors has been appointed as the University of Pittsburgh's new associate vice provost and dean of students, effective Jan. 2.

In his new role, Nabors will oversee the community and inclusion team, the wellness team, and the student engagement and professional development team. He will play a vital part in advancing the mission and vision of the Division of Student Affairs, which is focused on fostering inclusive excellence and supporting student success by cultivating a sense of belonging, engagement, well-being and learning. Nabors' leadership will be crucial in continuing to build a campus climate that supports the holistic development of all students, ensuring they have the resources and support to thrive both academically and personally.

In her announcement, Vice Provost of Student Affairs Carla Panzella thanked Executive Associate Dean of Student Affairs Lorraine Craven for her outstanding leadership as interim dean of students.

"I am confident that Marlin's thoughtful and innovative approach to the work of student affairs will propel us toward excellence as we continue to serve students," Panzella said.

Nabors comes to Pitt from Endicott College, where he has served as the senior student affairs officer for more than four years. While at Endicott, he helped create a one-stop student concern reporting page for faculty and staff, co-chaired a strategic planning committee focused on student engagement and success, led the creation of a division-wide co-curricular strategy for engaging students and facilitated the launch of five new living-learning communities tied to first-year writing courses.

With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, Nabors brings to Pitt profound not only expertise but a deep commitment to fostering inclusive and supportive campus environments. He has held a wide range of roles and provided oversight to the full spectrum of traditional student services, including student engagement, community service, health and counseling services, community standards and residence life as well as international student services, disability services and a women's center.

Nabors, a first-generation college graduate, earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism and sociology from Central Michigan University. He later attended Syracuse University and earned a master's degree in cultural foundations of education, furthering his commitment to social justice and equitable educational opportunities for all students.
