Fire Department to wash Police Department vehicles following friendly challenge

Police received more votes in 2023 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive; Next event set for Aug. 1

KILLEEN, Texas (July 8, 2024) -The City of Killeen Fire Department personnel will be washing vehicles of our Killeen Police Department on Monday, July 15, at 9 a.m., following the City's Battle of the Badges blood drive last August 2023.

The City of Killeen partnered with Carter BloodCare for the third year in a row, bringing in 113 units of blood from 131 donors - that's potentially 339 lives saved and the highest number of donors since hosting the event.

During the blood drive, donors could vote for their favorite department and during the last drive, the Police Department got 83.5 votes while the Fire Department received 47.5 votes. As tradition, the losing team washes the winning team's vehicles. Last year's event was a tie-breaking blood drive, as both departments had each won for two years.

The next Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is set for Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Killeen Conference and Convention Center.

Donors can sign up at https://ww2.greatpartners.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/150469

The public is invited to donate blood, then cast their ballot for either department. Our police and fire departments will also have giveaways, music and refreshments.

While the Police Department has now won three of the five blood drive votes, there's no real "loser" in this life-saving battle between these two teams, but the department with the least amount of votes will once again have to wash the vehicles of the winning department this year. Last year's wash was delayed due to the city being under water restrictions.

We thank the community for their support and encourage everyone to continue to participate in future blood drives
