GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Roswell

Roswell, Georgia (September 1, 2024) - The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Roswell, Georgia. On Tuesday, September 1, 2024, at about 2:40 p.m., the Roswell Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation. One man died in the incident. No officers were injured in the incident.

Preliminary information indicates that about 1:55 p.m., a man got on a MARTA bus and attempted to stab the bus driver. The man got off the bus without the driver being harmed, and the driver called 911. Roswell Police Department officers responded to the area and found the man walking along Alpharetta Highway near Mansell Road. As officers got out and approached the man, the man pulled out a pair of scissors and rushed towards the officers. Officers unsuccessfully attempted to tase the man and shot the man as he continued to advance towards them. Officers provided the man with medical aid, and he was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man's identity is not being released until his family is notified of his death. The man will be taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be given to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for review.
