D.C. Superior Court Issues Order on Motion Ripe Dates

D.C. Superior Court Issues Order on Motion Ripe Dates

October 01, 2024

On September 30 the Superior Court for the District of Columbia issued Administrative Order 24-15 on motion ripe dates and performance standard measures. These general guidelines identify the ripe date for a motion based on the first appropriate time for judicial resolution:

  1. A motion in which opposing parties are permitted to file a response is ripe when the allowable time for service, responses, and replies has elapsed.
  2. A motion in which a response is not required or anticipated is ripe on the file date.
  3. A motion that is routinely resolved at a hearing is ripe on the hearing date.

The order also includes a list of ripe dates and extensions by Superior Court division.

The court will implement a business process to ensure compliance with the order and will use ad hoc reporting to monitor motions and matters under advisement, implement standardized quality assurance procedures, and establish error reports for data accuracy.
