PRESIDENT WILIAME KATONIVERE’S ADDRESS AT THE 2024 CIVIL SERVICE MEDAL INVESTITURE CEREMONY...

Your Lordship, Acting Chief Justice, Justice Salesi Temo,
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji and Minister for Civil Service, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka,
Honourable Cabinet Ministers and Assistant Ministers,
Honourable Members of Parliament,
Members of the College of Honour,
Permanent Secretaries,
Your Excellencies, Members of the Diplomatic Corps,
Members of the Disciplined Forces,
Civil Service Medal Award Recipients,
Distinguished Guests,
Family and friends of the Award Recipients, and
Members of the Media.

Miau sa bula re and Good Afternoon to you all.

Yesterday, the Third of July, 2024, the State House hosted the first session of this year's Civil Service investiture ceremony to deserving members of our public service, in recognition of distinguished devotion to duty and outstanding achievement. The Civil Service Medal awards is also an acknowledgement of their invaluable contribution to Fiji's development as a nation.

Today, being the second session of the investiture ceremony, I am truly encouraged by the scope of recognition across Ministries as reflected by the nominations that were endorsed for both sessions of the ceremony.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge the awardees who are unable to attend the ceremony due to work commitments or physical distance. We recognize your commitment.

Recognition of individuals, whether at the national or community level, not only acknowledges their dedication, but it also inspires others to strive towards excellence. I am confident that increasing interest in nominations will lead to more recognition for those who make a significant impact on society.

As civil servants, you play an important role in the functioning of the government machinery. You are, in fact, the hands of government. Your responsibilities include implementing government policies, providing essential services to members of the public, and ensuring efficient administration. Your dedication and professionalism are crucial in maintaining the smooth operation of government departments and agencies, ultimately serving all citizens of Fiji.

I believe that recognizing the efforts of deserving individuals is essential to promoting accountability, transparency, and excellence in nation building. You may not recognize it, but your contributions are the foundation of our nation's overall development, and it is important to acknowledge the efforts, not only for self-improvement, but also for nation building.

In presenting these medals today, we also remember the importance of public service. It is through your hardwork and commitment that our communities in rural, maritime, and urban areas, thrive and prosper.

I take this moment to acknowledge members of the media for often sharing back stories of Fijians, who go beyond their call of duty in serving other Fijians in need of assistance, whether during or in the aftermath of natural disasters, or during community or national events.

These stories, with their accompanying illustrations, often reflect in the public domain, the work that you do in the field that truly deserves recognition. More so to create a Culture of Appreciation among Fijians, as well as instill a sense of civic pride and goodwill. I urge every Fijian to cultivate the Culture of Appreciation as it positively drives motivation, people engagement, as well as overall productivity.

I wish to reiterate comments I made during the first session of this year's Civil Service Medal investiture that this year's ceremony for this medal category is the beginning of successive appreciation investiture ceremonies here at the State House.

I particularly appreciate and thank family members, friends, and well wishes present today as you have been part of this journey.

As the current roll of actively serving civil servants stands at 42,000, I expect active involvement in the next call for nominations for the Civil Service Medal award.

Congratulations once again to the Civil Service Medal award cohort for this year. Ladies and Gentlemen, I wish you all well and this being Civil Service Week, a Happy Civil Service Day for tomorrow.

May God bless us all and continue to bless our beloved nation, Fiji!

Vinaka Vakalevu and Thank you All.
