Congressman Al Green to Host Historic 3rd Annual Slavery Remembrance Legislative Update Featuring Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III

(Houston, TX) - On Saturday, August 17, 2024, Congressman Al Green will host the historic 3^rd Annual Slavery Remembrance Legislative Update Breakfast. Special guests for this occasion will include Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III, prominent clergy, public officials, and civic organizations from across the Greater Houston Area. The legislative update will include the Congressional designation of August 20^th as Slavery Remembrance Day. The event will feature Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III addressing the theme "We are the Dream and Hope of the Enslaved," inspired by American poet Maya Angelou's renowned poem "Still I Rise."This initiative is part of Congressman Al Green's Conscience Agenda, aiming to establish a National Day of Commemoration for the lives lost during nearly 250 years of slavery. The event will also spotlight key legislative initiatives, including efforts to secure a Congressional Gold Medal for the enslaved, recognizing their immense contributions as the foundational mothers and fathers of America's economic greatness.
