After one year ‘My PD Connect’ shows promise

My PD Connect was rolled out in July of 2023, and since its launch, there have been more than 8,000 reports filed through the new system. This new system will reduce call hold times and free up time for 911 call takers and officers, allowing them to focus on other calls and field duties. It improves upon the services provided to the community by the Eugene Police Department.

When community members complete an online report, the My PD Connect system allows users to schedule a virtual meeting via Zoom or phone call with a Community Service Officer. Community Service Officers are trained, professional, unarmed, civilian officers who respond to non-emergency calls to free up sworn officers for more emergent incidents. CSOs are responsible for more than 30% of the department's caseload focusing on property crimes, traffic crashes and hazards, and assisting patrol.

My PD Connect is mobile friendly, works in multiple languages and will work across many device types including iPhone, Android, iPad or Mac and Windows computers, and adapts to any device and screen size to work no matter what device is being used to file a report.

Community members can reach the system by:

As the crime reports come in, the system will generate 'heat maps' to help EPD track crime trends for better response and prevention. The mapping is in real-time, so if there is a rash of crimes in a particular area, it can flag this for EPD response.

Additionally, this work is aligned with the City's broad effort toward Strategic Plan goals working to:

  • Increase sense of Safety
  • Increase vibrancy, vitality and livability of downtown
  • Improve support for local business environment and
  • Strengthen relationships with the whole community, including the most marginalized groups
