Unraveling History: The Impact of Memories on Nathan Meeker’s Legacy

GREELEY, Colo. - Step into history with the Greeley Historic Preservation Commission at their next history presentation on Thursday, August 22, at noon. Katie Henry, assistant curator of education for the City of Greeley Museums, will present "Meeker Remembered: Creating Histories and Memories of Nathan Meeker, 1879-1900." The presentation will take place in the Greeley History Museum's community room, 714 8th Street.

Henry will explore the differences between history and memory by examining the story of Nathan Meeker's death in 1879. She'll ask thought-provoking questions like: How have these memories shaped our view of Nathan Meeker over time? And how can the museum use this knowledge to bring new life to the Meeker Home Museum?

About the Speaker
Katie Henry is the assistant curator of education at the City of Greeley Museums and a master's candidate in public history at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Growing up in historic houses, she has a deep love for historic house museums, like the Meeker Home Museum, for their history and potential to serve as engaging community resources. Her thesis examines the history and memory of Nathan Meeker from his death to the present day and will be completed in early 2025.
