CHARLOTTE - Congresswoman Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (NC-12) celebrated the reopening of the new CW Williams Community Health Center in her district yesterday. Rep. Adams helped secure a federal grant of over $1.2 million to support the renovations and modernization of the 80-year-old center, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center and safety net primary care provider in an area of Charlotte considered to be a healthcare desert.

"Having grown up in a family that sometimes used the emergency room as primary care, I am proud to have helped secure the funds for improving CW Williams Community Health Center, an oasis in one of many medical deserts in Mecklenburg County," said Rep. Adams. "Residents will benefit from the new facilities and having state-of-the-art medical equipment right in their own backyard."

The funds Rep. Adams helped secure also helped acquire specialized medical equipment such as a portable, point-of-care ultrasound machine and laboratory processing equipment. Last night's opening celebration for the center was attended by Rep. Adams, Mecklenburg County Commissioner for District 2 Vilma Leakes, County Sheriff Garry McFadden, Williams Foundation CEO Debra Weeks, other community leaders, and attendees from the general public.
