The City of Las Vegas has deployed a new private 5G network that incorporates an artificial intelligence (AI) radio access network (RAN) that optimizes wireless networks and provides the potential for new revenue opportunities. Powered by Vapor IO and NVIDIA's AI Aerial platform, the collaboration unlocks the world's first private 5G AI-RAN solution for cities.

The deployment confirms Las Vegas' commitment to lead on private 5G and AI.

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with Vapor IO, NVIDIA and its ecosystem partners to bring the world's first private 5G-based AI-RAN solution to the City of Las Vegas," said the Las Vegas Chief Innovation Officer Michael Sherwood. "This deployment marks a significant milestone in our journey towards becoming a smarter, more connected city. The AI-RAN solution will undoubtedly propel our smart city initiatives to new heights, enabling us to deliver improved services and a better quality of life for our residents and visitors."

The technology provides the automated infrastructure necessary to implement low-latency services, enabling voice, video, data and AI applications on a common platform and employs the principles of shared infrastructure.

The deployment of several thousand cameras across the city in 2025 will allow Las Vegas to shift workloads between edge data centers and optimize performance in real time. This includes enabling application experiences, such as powering autonomous drones or supporting smart infrastructure.

"By harnessing vast amounts of data from industries like entertainment, tourism, technology, and education, AI can transform this information into actionable insights that improve public services, optimize transportation, boost local businesses, and enhance educational experiences," Sherwood explained.
