The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today hosted an Open House on the 2025- 2029 Capital Plan at the Bronx Library Center from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer, New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow, and Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi attended the event co-hosted by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.
"Our 2025-2029 Capital Plan will bring the Bronx electric buses, new subway cars, and modern, up-to-date facilities and equipment," said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer. "This plan is an investment in decades of great public transit in the borough, and we're ready to deliver these ambitious projects better, faster, and cheaper than ever before. We can't wait to tell Bronxites about what's coming."
"Open Houses are great opportunities to talk with the public about capital projects in their communities like upcoming ADA work at three Bronx stations and state-of-good repair work," said Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi. "We look forward to welcoming more Bronx riders to Metro-North as we work to deliver safe and reliable service made possible through capital investments."
"We're working hard to deliver fast, reliable and safe service for customers and this upcoming Capital Plan will ensure we can continue to do so for generations to come," said New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow. "Bronx residents will see the results of these efforts with state-of-good repair including power system upgrades, improvements to the 240 St maintenance shop, new electric buses, and more."
The Open House featured an exhibition of informational posters, pamphlets, and videos explaining key elements of the Capital Plan including new ADA improvements coming to Bronx subway and Metro-North stations, new electric buses, upgrades to the 240 St Shop which serves the and lines, and state-of-good repair work.
Agency representatives were also available to discuss career opportunities at the MTA and business opportunities for Minority-, Women-, Disadvantaged-, and Service-Disabled Veteran-owned firms and fare discount programs.
This is the fourth Open House the MTA has hosted on the Capital Plan. The previous open houses took place on Oct. 21 at Grand Central Terminal, Nov. 13 at Queens Public Library in Jamaica, Queens, and on Nov. 21 at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
"The 2025-2029 Capital Plan outlined by MTA includes a real commitment to making our transit system more accessible," said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. "This plan reflects a bold investment in our communities, with much-needed upgrades to subway and Metro-North stations, ensuring better access for older adults with mobility issues, residents living with disabilities, parents with strollers, and everyone else who relies on public transportation to get from Point A to Point B in our borough. The addition of new electric buses and ADA improvements will help make our transit system more equitable, modern, and efficient for our commuters for generations to come."
