South End Officers Recovered a Firearm After a Stolen Bike Investigation

At about 8:15 PM, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested Edison Johnson, 46, of Boston, on firearm charges.

Officers were conducting a Walk and Talk (Code 19) in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard, when they were approached by a victim whose electric bike was stolen earlier in the evening.

While officers were speaking with the victim, they were able to observe an unknown male with a backpack on the electric bike directly across the street. Officers approached the suspect, and placed him into handcuffs. Officers conducted a search of the backpack and recovered a firearm from inside. Officers continued to search the suspect, and recovered a plastic bag of Fentanyl. Officers were able to return the electric bike to the victim.

The firearm was later determined to be a Smith & Wesson MP Shield with ten rounds in the magazine. Officers conducted an inquiry of the firearm's serial number which revealed that it was stolen.

Johnson was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Two Counts of Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of Class A. The suspect also had three active arrest warrants. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
