Ranking Member Scott Statement on Nomination of Chavez-DeRemer for Secretary of Labor

WASHINGTON - Today, Ranking Member Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after President-elect Trump nominated Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) to serve as the next Secretary of the Department of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer has served on the Committee on Education and the Workforce and was a cosponsor of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

"I wish to offer my congratulations to my colleague Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer on her nomination to lead the U.S. Department of Labor. I have worked with Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer for the past two years on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and she has shown a willingness to work in a bipartisan manner and support policies that benefit workers, such as the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

"Over the past four years, the Biden-Harris Administration has proven to be the most pro-worker, pro-union Administration in the history of this country. We have made great strides in improving the everyday lives of working families across the country, fighting for higher wages, safer workplaces, and better benefits. I will work hard in Congress to defend the progress we have made.

"I am deeply opposed to the anti-labor policies that President-elect Trump touted over the course of his campaign. His intent to weaken the National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, both of which are critical to the well-being and empowerment of all workers, is just the beginning of the havoc his Administration could wreak on worker protections in this country.

"I have spent my entire career working with both Democrats and Republicans to advance policies that benefit workers. Should she be confirmed, I will work with Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer to implement policies that benefit workers, families, and the economy."
