Andrews FCU Receives Recognition at DCUC Conference

Andrews Federal Credit Union and longtime Credit Union volunteer, Elijah "Bennie" Roberts, were both recognized for distinguished service at the Defense Credit Union Council Annual Conference.

At the conference, longtime Andrews Federal volunteer Elijah "Bennie" Roberts was inducted into the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) Hall of Honor. This honor recognizes individuals in the credit union movement who have made significant contributions to both their respective credit union and the Defense Credit Union industry as a whole.

Roberts has contributed more than 32 years of volunteer service to the Andrews Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. He currently serves Andrews Federal as a Director Emeritus and continues to provide guidance and support for credit union initiatives. In addition to his volunteer service to Andrews Federal, Roberts has built an Air Force career as an expert in logistics. He served 33 years in the Air Force and currently works in a civilian role as a Senior Analyst in the Directorate of Logistics, Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, Engineering, and Force Protection at the Pentagon.

Andrews Federal Credit Union was also awarded the 2023 U.S. Department of the Army "Distinguished Credit Union of the Year" designation for its USAG Benelux location. This is the third time Andrews Federal has been honored as a Distinguished Credit Union by the Department of the Army, and the second consecutive year the credit union has received this designation.

Andrews Federal provides financial services and support to more than 8,200 US members assigned to NATO, SHAPE and the three US Embassy locations. The credit union serves as a support and problem-solving partner to the military communities it serves. In addition to offering high-value financial products and services, credit union leaders work closely with USAG Benelux's command to support needs proactively. For example, in response to concerns from garrison leadership over high utility costs, Andrews Federal launched a utility grant relief and loan program to support military service members and disbursed more than $41,800 to defray utility costs.

According to Andrews Federal President and CEO Ken Orgeron, these recognitions indicate that Andrews Federal continues to prioritize its support and commitment to the military. "Andrews Federal Credit Union continues to expand its service footprint and provide resources for members from all walks of life," Orgeron said. "As we grow, our military service members remain a priority. We are honored to receive these recognitions, which underscore the fact that we are doing the right things for our members who are serving our country. Supporting and advocating for them is a responsibility our leadership team, board and employees maintain as a privilege and a high priority."

The credit union and Roberts received these honors at the DCUC Annual Conference this August in St. Petersburg, Fla.
