Kings Award recognition for volunteers in Coventry

They include Mercia MS Therapy Centre, Moat House Community Trust (MHCT) and Warwick Volunteers from the University of Warwick.

The awards were made to dozens of worthy winners from across the country.

Mercia MS Therapy Centre is a Coventry based charity providing therapies and support for people with Multiple Sclerosis and other long-term conditions; Warwick Volunteers is student-led, helping to make a difference in lots of community projects; and charity Moat House Leisure and Neighbourhood Centre includes the Henley Grub Hub which provides nutritious food at minimal cost.

Cllr Naeem Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, said: "The Kings Award is an opportunity to recognise the importance and life changing impact of volunteering, and I'd like to congratulate all of the Coventry winners.

"Their commitment and kindness touches so many lives in the best way possible way.

"There are many more people who volunteer their time across the city and these awards shine the spotlight on all of their work."

One of the winners, Moat House Community Trust is run by and for residents across Wood End, Henley Green, Manor Farm and Deedmore (WEHM), in Henley Ward Coventry.

The MHCT shared learning and systems to create a city-wide network of 15 Food Hubs.

It is also improving health and wellbeing, including tackling loneliness and isolation. It is part of a young people's holiday activity and food scheme. Other activities run by volunteers include Tea and Talk sessions, Healthy Walks and Digital Inclusion weekly activities.

It also helps in providing homes at affordable rent for local families and advocating on behalf of individuals and groups.

All Trustees are volunteers, residents and those invited for their specialist skills.
