Fall 2024 Durham Planning Academy Now Accepting Applications

Want to learn more about how planning works in Durham and how you can have a say in it? You're invited to apply to the Fall 2024 Durham Planning Academy.

Hosted by the Durham City-County Planning Department, this free course is a chance for 50 residents to dive into how planning happens in Durham, learn about the tools available for planning, and discover how to get involved. Attendees will pick up skills to help them understand the planning process, get insight into development in North Carolina, and learn about the history of planning in Durham.

Applications are open until Friday, October 11. The academy is set for Friday, November 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both sessions will take place at Durham County Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St., which has partnered with the Durham City-County Planning Department to host this community-learning opportunity. Dinner will be provided on November 15 along with a light breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided on November 16.

Attendees Can Expect:

  • Interactive Workshops - Learn how to shape the future of neighborhoods and Durham itself. Planning staff and community experts will lead these sessions, making sure it's an engaging experience.
  • Networking - Connect with experts and leaders, building relationships for future engagement.
  • Growth - Develop skills, knowledge, and connections to help navigate the planning world.
  • Toolkit - Leave with resources to help understand and engage in planning processes.
  • Time Commitment - It's just one Friday evening and one Saturday session with meals provided.
