CTL Offers Sessions to Help Faculty Prepare for Challenging Times

In response to local, national and global events, some instructors have expressed concern that the fall semester may present more turmoil than usual. In September and October, the Center for Teaching and Learning will offer programming and resources designed to help instructors throughout the campus community strategize and process various potential classroom challenges.<_o3a_p>

Preparing Ourselves for Challenging Times
Thursday, Sept. 19, 11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m.; W.E.B. Du Bois Library, IDEAS Training Room, 600<_o3a_p>

A facilitated discussion session that will explore how instructors make the decision to acknowledge (or not acknowledge) controversial topics in classes and how they might approach the facilitation of challenging discussions with our students. This session is in person and includes lunch. Register here.<_o3a_p>

Finding Our Center in Times of Turmoil
Friday, Sept. 20, 10-11:30 a.m.; W.E.B. Du Bois Library, 7th floor CTL Conference Room and via Zoom.<_o3a_p>

This Contemplative Pedagogy Group meeting will discuss and reflect on bodily and cognitive responses to turmoil, how those responses manifest in teaching, and ways of finding joy and resilience so instructors can more sustainably meet the difficulties of the day and help students.
