Lindner partners with Purcell Marian to offer certification training to students
High school students given opportunity to earn Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification

The Carl H. Lindner College of Business, in partnership with Purcell Marian High School, recently launched a collaborative opportunity for students to receive the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification in project management.
Lean Six Sigma is a set of tools and management techniques designed to improve business processes. The Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification process will introduce students to key foundational Lean and Six Sigma concepts and principles to improve processes and reduce waste.
Students will receive 20 hours of instruction and then must pass a knowledge test and complete a project to receive their certification.
With this knowledge, students will be able to tackle improvement projects, apply problem solving skills and provide support to green and black belt professionals on larger initiatives.

"Because the University of Cincinnati is not just a university in Cincinnati, we have a mandate to impact our community in a positive way. This partnership will also help build a bridge with Purcell Marian to show high school students the valuable career and educational opportunities that Lindner has to offer," said Steven Jones, assistant professor-educator of operations, business analytics, and information systems, who will facilitate the certification process from Lindner. "I hope these students take away a greater confidence that not only can they come to UC, but they can thrive and excel here as well."
Along with boosting students' resumes, this certification will leave students with key analytical and statistical problem-solving skills and enhanced capabilities in process improvement.
"We are excited for the students enrolled in our manufacturing course at Purcell Marian High School to participate in this innovative partnership with UC and Professor Steven Jones," said Lydia Backscheider, Career Initiatives Program teacher at Purcell Marian. "The objectives of this partnership align with our Career Initiatives Program at Purcell Marian, where students are inspired, engaged and supported in preparing for their future careers. Through this partnership, students will be challenged to adopt a mindset of continuous improvement, which will undoubtedly help them in their futures."
Professor Steven Jones provided students with an overview of the program during students' recent visit to Lindner Hall.
To kick off the program, students visited Lindner on Oct. 22, enjoying an afternoon on the UC campus where they received an introduction to the program from Jones as well as a chance to hear from and connect with current Lindner students.

Lindner MBA program names new director

The Carl H. Lindner College of Business has appointed a new academic director of MBA programs. Johnny Rungtusanatham, PhD - also an Ohio Eminent Scholar in Operations Management and Quantitative Analysis - will fill the role and serve as a professor of operations, business analytics, and information systems (OBAIS).
