MUSC emergency departments, trauma and elective surgeries are all operating under normal conditions

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 7, 2024)- The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health system is dedicated to maintaining high-quality surgical and procedural care despite challenges posed by the U.S. IV fluid shortage. The institution is collaborating with partners and affiliates throughout the state to determine the best ways to responsibly support each other. At the same time, MUSC Health emergency departments, trauma and elective surgeries are all operating under normal conditions.

"We understand the concerns surrounding the IV fluid shortage caused by Hurricane Helene," stated Patrick Cawley, M.D., CEO MUSC Health. To address potential disruptions in care, teams have implemented resource conservation measures and are actively evaluating the situation, working diligently to ensure that patient care remains unaffected. They will continue to monitor the situation closely week by week.
