Join FCM at CGIAR Science Week 1-5 July, Nairobi, Kenya

When humanity has faced its greatest challenges, science and innovation have provided solutions. Today, major and connected global challenges threaten the sustainability of food, land, and water systems, with the most vulnerable people and communities at greatest risk.

Recognizing the urgency of these challenges, CGIAR and the Kenyan Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) are convening the world's leading scientists and decision-makers at the intersection of agriculture, climate, and health for an inaugural CGIAR Science Week from July 1 through July 5 in Nairobi, Kenya. The gathering will inspire action and investment in sustainable food systems that nourish both people and the planet. With the new CGIAR research Portfolio being shaped to address the biggest challenges and opportunities of our time, this will be a key moment to shape and co-create the research and innovation agenda and to establish critical partnerships.

At CGIAR Science Week, the Fragility, Conflict, and Migration (FCM) Initiative invites you to register for our events online or in-person.

Day 2: July 2, 2024

  • Food Frontiers & Security - 12:30-14:30PM UTC+3: People - especially women - in settings with fragility, conflict, migration, and rapid urbanization are the most vulnerable to crises and need solutions. We advance food system science to address fragility, conflict, rapid urbanization, and demographic shifts amid climate change. We focus on science-based solutions for resilient food systems in fragile and conflict-affected areas through preparedness, recovery, and understanding of migration; resilient urban and peri-urban food systems, particularly for the urban poor; and rapidly identifying and deploying innovations to strengthen food systems against shocks.

Day 3: July 3, 2024

  • Science Talk: CGIAR's Crises Response, Science and Innovations to Support Lives and Livelihoods in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Communities and Regions - 4:30-6:00PM UTC+3: The event will showcase successful partnerships, innovative approaches, and scientific evidence produced by CGIAR researchers to address the complex challenges posed by fragility, conflict, and displacement. The session aims to highlight important and impactful partnerships with WFP, UNHCR, and other partners to inspire and facilitate knowledge-sharing on effective strategies for promoting resilience and achieving sustainable development in fragile and conflict-affected settings. Through interactive discussions and presentations, participants will explore how these partnerships have contributed to addressing the root causes of fragility and conflict and fostering long-term stability and prosperity in conflict-affected regions. Ultimately, the event seeks to catalyze new partnerships and initiatives that can drive positive change and transformative impact in fragile contexts around the world.
