Use your FSA funds and plan year benefits by Aug. 31

August 07, 2024

2-minute read

If you contributed to a TexFlexSM flexible spending account (FSA) in Plan Year 2024, now's a good time to double-check your balance.

If you didn't use all of your funds, you still have time. If you have a health care or limited-purpose FSA, there are a number of eligible products you can stock up on. The online FSA store is a good resource. Just be sure to keep your receipts. You can also view a list of common eligible expenses on the TexFlex website.

If you don't spend the money in your FSA by Aug. 31, take note:

Health care and/or limited-purpose FSA participants: You can carry over up to $610 to Plan Year 2025 (starting Sept. 1). Any unspent funds over $610 will be forfeited. There is a minimum carryover amount of $25 if you didn't re-enroll in the new plan year.

Dependent care FSA participants: Unused funds will not carry over. But you do have until Nov. 15, 2024, to spend Plan Year 2024 funds in your dependent care FSA. Plan Year 2024 dependent care FSA funds not spent by then will be forfeited.

The last day to submit claims for all FSAs is Dec. 31.
