McCain Institute, Foley Foundation, and New America to Host “Bringing Americans Home” Event on Capitol Hill

Event will highlight the crisis of American hostage-taking and wrongfully detained

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 19, 2024) - On Wednesday, July 24, the McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) will co-sponsor the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation's release of its sixth annual edition of "Bringing Americans Home," an independent research report that provides new information about the ongoing crisis of Americans taken hostage abroad by terrorists or wrongfully detained by nation-states.

The "Bringing Americans Home" report highlights the experiences of captives and their family members, as well as data that conveys the scale, scope, and recent trends of the hostage-taking crisis. The report informs executive branch policymaking and congressional legislation, highlighting where the government's efforts are working and where changes could be made to deter future hostage-taking, hold captors accountable for their crimes, and support victims.

The report will be released at an event co-sponsored by the McCain Institute and New America, featuring Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger Carstens, Foley Foundation President and Founder Diane Foley, members of Congress, a former hostage, the husband of a detained journalist, and report author Cindy Loertscher.
