Food for Gaza. Second flight carrying 40 tonnes of aid for the population of Gaza arrived in Jordan today from Brindisi

The second humanitarian flight organised by Italy as part of the 'Food for Gaza' initiative left today for Amman from the UN-WFP (World Food Programme) base in Brindisi. The flight carried another 20 tonnes of food aid donated by Coldiretti and Confagricoltura and 20 tonnes of medical aid donated by the Red Cross.

"The Italian Government continues to demonstrate its concrete efforts to address the humanitarian situation in the Strip," said Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. "The Food for Gaza initiative is supported by both the Israeli and Palestinian authorities; it is a commitment to cooperation that unites the efforts of Sistema Italia and International Organisations (FAO, WFP, International Red Cross and Red Crescent and NGOs) to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian population in Gaza" continued Tajani.

Today's humanitarian flight is the second to have been organised by Italy, after the one carried out last 17 July, which also took off from the WFP base in Brindisi and was also directed to Amman. The aid, as was the case in July, will be entrusted to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) in Jordan, which will arrange for its subsequent entry into Gaza by land.

As part of the initiative, 15 special IVECO trucks donated by Italy (worth over 2 million euro) were also recently delivered to the World Food Programme (WFP). Once in Gaza, they will remain in the Strip and be used to distribute international aid in the country. Together with the trucks, another 15 tonnes of medical aid donated by the Italian Cooperation will be transported on a ship departing from Ravenna. Other aid will be collected and sent in the near future: the San Donato Group has already provided more than half a tonne of medicines and medical devices that should leave with a next shipment at the beginning of 2025, while various companies in the food and health sectors have been contacted for new donations.
