PSA Brings National ID Registration to the Far flung Turtle Islands, Tawi Tawi

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is conducting National ID registration for residents of the most remote town on the southwestern tip of the country, the Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi.

In cooperation with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the local government, PSA was able to visit and safely transport registration kits to the island municipality situated near the border between the Philippines and Malaysia.

Residents, including children, of Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi register to the National ID system.

As transportation going to and from the island municipality is only available once a month, the mobile registration activity, which began on 07 August 2024 and is expected to continue until 27 August 2024, allows residents to conveniently register to the National ID system.

As of 15 August 2024, a total of 1,061 residents, including children ages 1 to 4, have successfully registered during the activity. This brings the total registration to 5,271 or over 92 percent of the municipality's total population of 5,683 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH).

"The registration at the Turtle Islands in Tawi-Tawi is only one of the PSA's numerous efforts to register every Filipino anywhere in the country. We will continue to go to great lengths to make National ID registration inclusive, accessible, and convenient," said PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, National Statistician and Civil Registrar General. "We envision that registered persons on every island in the country will enjoy the benefits of being registered to the National ID. We will continue to push forth initiatives to ensure that all Filipinos, especially those living in far-flung areas, can conveniently register to the National ID and be part of the Makabagong Pilipinas."

Meanwhile, other National ID registration efforts continue across the country. Registration centers in various locations as listed at https://philsys.gov.ph/registration-center/ remain open for walk-ins. Filipinos who wish to register can simply bring any of the accepted supporting documents to a registration center near them.

In addition, the PSA is also actively registering children 1 to 4 years old to the National ID system in registration centers, or through mobile registration in Geographically-Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) or institutional registration in schools. Parents or guardians registered to the National ID system just need to accompany their children during registration. The PhilSys Number (PSN) or permanent identification number of the child that will be generated will be linked to the accompanying parent or guardian.

As of 26 July 2024, a total of 88,983,568 Filipinos have already registered to the National ID system.
