Niagara University's Lewiston campus celebrated the start of the holiday season with its annual Christmas tree blessing and lighting ceremony on Dec. 2, a cherished tradition that brings the university community together to celebrate the joy and spirit of the season.
"The tree standing tall before us is a blessing to our university," said the Rev. Gregory Cozzubbo, C.M., who served as master of ceremonies for the event. "It reminds us of all that is beautiful, all that is filled with the gentleness and the promise of God. It stands in our midst as a tree of light that we might promise such beauty and such light to one another and to our world. It stands like that tree of paradise that God made into the tree of life, the cross of Jesus."
The event, which was co-sponsored by the NU Student Government Association and the Office of Mission & Ministry, included performances by the university's American Sign Language Club, the NU Players, and the Soar Throats acapella group. Attendees also enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies to ring in this festive time of year.
