Measurements to be taken on SB I-81 bridge; steel repairs on NB I-83

Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today there will be weekend lane restrictions starting tonight on the southbound Interstate 81 George N. Wade Memorial Bridge and northbound Interstate 83 John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Dauphin and Cumberland counties.

Weather permitting, at 9:00 PM tonight, Friday, October 11, the southbound right lane on the I-81 George N. Wade Bridge will be closed so a contractor can take measurements for future steel repairs. This work is expected to be completed by 6:00 AM Saturday, October 12. Exits will remain open during this time.

Also beginning at approximately 9:00 PM tonight, the right (auxiliary) lane of northbound I-83 will be closed from Exit 40B (New Cumberland) to the exit ramp to 2nd Street so steel repairs can be made to the bridge. The 2nd Street Exit will be closed, and traffic will be detoured to 13th Street then back on southbound I-83 to the 2nd Street exit. This restriction is expected to be in place until 9:00 AM Sunday, October 13.

Travelers should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.
