Low-cost internet launches on CiviForm

Seattleites can now apply for low-cost internet on their preferred device, in their preferred language, in just a few minutes using CiviForm. Residents save on average $420 per year on their internet bills by enrolling in the low-cost internet program through Astound.

This was a joint effort across Seattle IT, with cross-division collaboration between the Affordable Seattle Team and the Digital Equity Team to improve resident access to affordability programs. A special thank you to Delia Burke, Matthew Sprenke, and Brenda Tate for their dedication to simplifying how residents can quickly sign up for low-cost internet on CiviForm.

Before the launch on CiviForm, residents applied using a paper form available only in English. With the transition to CiviForm, residents can now apply in one of eight languages! Residents can then reuse their previously entered information to quickly apply to eight other City programs, for a total possible savings of over $25,000 on common living expenses such as childcare, transportation, and recreation.

The program is available to current and new Astound customers who live in an area serviced by Astound. Applicants must make less than 70% of the State's Median Income; for a family of four, that is less than $85,142 annually.

Access to high-speed internet is a crucial element of the City's digital equity strategy to ensure that all residents are connected. For more details about the program, please visit: https://www.seattle.gov/tech/internet-and-devices/free-and-discounted-internet#internetfirstbyastound.
