Massport To Complete Runway Work at Hanscom Field

BOSTON - The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) will be completing the Runway 5-23 Rehab, Lighting, and Taxiway E Geometry Improvements Project next month. The project will finalize the total rehabilitation of one of Hanscom Field's runways and replace lighting with LEDs for the full length of the runway. The work is necessary to maintain high standards of safety. This is the second of a two-part project that began in 2023.

Starting on August 5th, Runway 5-23 will be closed for approximately 37 days, which will allow critical work on the airfield. The main goal of this project is to replace the asphalt pavement that has deteriorated on Runway 5-23, north of Runway 11-29. There are also sustainability components to this project, which include runway lights upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs, increasing energy savings.

The runway work is part of routine, but essential, safety maintenance projects that occur annually throughout the airport property.

Traffic and noise impact from construction vehicles is expected to be minimal.

For information on specific changes in runway usage, please call Massport's Noise Line at 781-869-8050 with any questions or concerns.
