Capito Announces Two Congressionally Directed Spending Awards to Support New Ambulances in Braxton County, Rural Health Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), announced two awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to improve rural health services and emergency services for communities in West Virginia.

These awards, which were secured through Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), will help acquire new ambulances for Braxton County and also expand the UniteUs West Virginia Program.

"As the Ranking Member of the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, I was able to secure the funding to help direct resources from HHS directly into our West Virginia communities," Ranking Member Capito said. "These awards will help connect West Virginians to critical health and emergency services, especially in our rural areas, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have in our state."

Individual award details listed below:

  • $470,000 HHS CDS award to FaithHealth Appalachia, Inc. (Huntington, W.Va.) to expand the UniteUs West Virginia program to provide critical healthcare and wraparound services to rural West Virginians.
  • $400,000 HHS CDS award to County of Braxton, W.Va. to purchase two new ambulances for the Braxton County Emergency Ambulance Service Authority.
