MONCKS CORNER, S.C. - Santee Cooper today stopped its controlled spill out of Lake Marion.

The utility started spilling on Sept. 26 to prepare for water flows coming from North Carolina and heading downstream into Lake Marion after Hurricane Helene. Operators monitored and tapered the spill in a manner that protects the integrity of the dams and dikes.

System Operations will continue to monitor inflows into the Santee Cooper Lake system.

Santee Cooper's dams and dikes are secure. Spilling is a normal part of Santee Cooper's hydroelectric operations in periods of increased inflows into the lakes.

Property owners and others connected to the flood plain receive notifications any time Santee Cooper initiates or changes a spill through the Spillway. Anyone interested in getting on the notification list can email your request to [email protected] or call 843-761-8000 ext. 5857.
