October 2024 STARS Award Winners: Stanley Dorleas and Miguel Morales

Stanley Dorleas and Miguel Morales with the Public Works Department have been selected as STARs for the month of October.

The STARS Service Excellence program recognizes outstanding employees who embody the city's standards for service excellence and exemplify the city's core service values. The purpose of the STARS award is to recognize and reward those employees who go beyond their normal job duties in providing outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.

After witnessing a two-vehicle crash, Morales and Dorelas immediately responded to help an injured driver until paramedics arrived.

Miguel and Stanley were working along the roadway on NW Broad St. near the IMI Concrete industrial area on May 29, 2024, when they witnessed a serious auto accident. Both employees safely went over to assist the driver who had been hit by a cement truck. They assisted the driver getting out of his car by carrying him by the upper and lower body. Miguel continued to hold the driver's hand and keep him awake as paramedics arrived. In reflecting on the incident, both Stanley and Miguel both expressed their desire to help a citizen in need and represent the City well in doing so.

STARS stands for "Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence." STARS are examples of representing the City in a positive light, exhibiting the core values, and creating a better quality of life for citizens.
