Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) involving dogs that occurred in 77th Street Division.

On October 16, 2024, at around 2:29 pm, 77th Street Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of vicious dogs in the area of Raymond Avenue and West 59th Street.

When the officers arrived, they briefly met with a citizen, who indicated he had been attacked by two dogs (a Pit bull and a German shepherd) but was able to fend them off. The dogs were last seen near a motorhome parked on Raymond Avenue north of West 58th Place. The officers conducted a follow-up to that intersection to locate the owner of the dogs. However, moments after the officers exited their vehicle, the dogs aggressively ran toward them, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.

Neither dog appeared to have been struck by gunfire and were last seen running onto the property of a vacant/abandoned residence. Although a representative from the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services was called to the scene, it was determined the dogs could not be safely detained.

A report of the incident was completed and will remain on file with Animal Services. The owner of the dogs has yet to be identified. No officers were injured during this incident. The community member who was initially confronted by the dogs had no visible injuries and declined medical treatment.

Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
