Note to editors: The meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies will take place through a virtual platform tomorrow.
Parliament, Monday, 18 November 2024 - The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies together with entities will tomorrow, 19 November 2024, brief the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies on the progress regarding analogue switch-off before the final date of 31 December 2024.
The department will also brief the committee on its responses to the submissions received on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Bill, as well as the SABC Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) and Direct to Home Television (DHT) strategy emanating from the public broadcaster's decoder tender to move into satellite.
The difference between DTT and DHT is that the former uses land-based digital transmitters to distribute signal to homes, whereas the latter uses satellite to distribute broadcast channels in digital signal to homes.
