Council calls for residents' feedback on proposed Council Tax Support Scheme changes

The proposed changes include more targeted funding to families and carers.

The Council has launched a consultation on the proposed changes to its 'Council Tax Support Scheme', which offers financial assistance to Hounslow residents on low-incomes or benefits, to help them pay their Council Tax. It is calling on residents - especially those receiving Council Tax Support - to share their feedback on the proposals.

The proposed changes, which mean some residents could receive more financial support with their Council Tax Bill, while some will receive less, will help the Council to address a £30 million funding shortfall and protect vital services.

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, the Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

"I encourage any resident affected - especially those getting this support now - to give their views on our proposed changes.

"We know many residents are still grappling with the effects of the cost-of-living crisis and the proposals include a dedicated Hardship Fund for any residents who may struggle with a potential increase in payments."

Residents can use the Council's online calculator to work out how much more or less they would potentially pay every month (using illustrative figures subject to approval in the formal budget setting process by both the council and the Greater London Assembly.)

Residents can take part in the Council Tax Support Scheme consultation online where drop-in sessions for residents to discuss the proposed changes with Engagement officers, are also listed.
