Ames Human Relations Commission Celebrates 50th Anniversary

A tree-planting ceremony is planned for Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Moore Memorial Park, 3050 Northridge Parkway, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ames Human Relations Commission (AHRC).

"The Ames Human Relations Commission is excited to honor its 50th anniversary and long history of bringing people together in Ames," said Casandra Eames, DEI Coordinator. "The Commissioners invite the public to join them in recognizing this very significant milestone."

Earlier this year, the AHRC held a T-shirt design contest to celebrate its anniversary. The AHRC will debut the winning design at the tree-planting event, and there will be opportunities to receive a T-shirt.

The Ames Human Relations Commission's purpose is to study the existence of discrimination in the community and work to minimize or eliminate it, promote goodwill among the various local racial, religious, and ethnic groups, and cooperate with other organizations to develop programs designed to eliminate racial, religious, cultural, and intergroup tensions.
