Homicide Squad detectives investigating the alleged shooting murder of Bol Deng in Fairfield earlier this year have charged a man with possession of firearms.

Just after 8.30am on Tuesday 27 February 2024, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to Stella Street in Fairfield Heights following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, police found the body of a man unresponsive on the street.

He has since been identified as 20-year-old Bol Deng.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined and State Crime Command's Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Gaul.

As part of ongoing inquiries, strike force detectives came across information about a man allegedly in possession of firearms.

About 8.35am yesterday (Thursday 21 November 2024), strike force detectives arrested a 28-year-old man at a mall in Casula.

The man was taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with four counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm.

Police are not alleging the firearms are linked to Bol Deng's murder.

The man was refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court today (Friday 22 November 2024).

Investigations under Strike Force Gaul continue.
