75 mio. kr. i bevillinger fra Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond til forskere på Natural Sciences

Naturvidenskabelig forskning har fået sig en flot bevillingsindsprøjtning. Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond har uddelt 180 mio. kr. til forskere på Aarhus Universitet, heraf er 75 mio. kr. gået til 24 forskningsprojekter fra Natural Sciences.

Forskningsprojekterne spænder vid og bredt; alt lige fra undersøgelser af proteiner i knoglerester fra stenalderen, til forbedringer af metoder til at finde biosignaturer på Mars, til russiske og ukrainske invasive indavlede muslinger, til undersøgelser af, hvordan stress påvirker vores celler.

Michael Møller Hansen, professor i genetik, økologi og evolution ved Institut for Biologi er leder af det forskningsprojekt, som forsker i stærkt indavlede vandremuslinger. Muslingerne er kommet med ballastvand hele vejen fra Rusland og Ukraine. Indavl svækker normalt arters udvikling og overlevelse, men vandremuslingen stortrives. Og det undrer forskerne:

"Indavl og trivsel er virkelig et genetisk paradoks, som længe har været diskuteret. Vi forestiller os, at vandremuslingerne udrenser de skadelige genetiske variationer, mens de rejser hertil, og det skal vi undersøge." forskningsprojektet modtager 3.152.571 kr.

Ulf Andersson Vang Ørom lektor i RNA-biologi og -innovation ved Institut for Molekylær Biologi og Genetik, undersøger et specialiseret tilflugtssted, som bliver oprettet når cellernes maskineri skal beskyttes. "Vi har opdaget nye RNA-aspekter af tilflugtsmekanismen, og vi vil nu arbejde for at opnå en større forståelse af hvordan det foregår på molekylært niveau." forskningsprojektet modtager 3.166.717 kr.

DFF-Forskningsprojekt1, også kendt som FP1, støtter den frie, forskerinitierede forskning på tværs af alle videnskabelige hovedområder. Formålet med DFF-Forskningsprojekt1 er at fremme kvaliteten af dansk forskning. Alle ansøgninger er blevet bedømt af et af fondens fem faglige råd, og de 24 udvalgte projekter er kendetegnet ved et højt fagligt niveau af international kvalitet.
