An anticipated CME (coronal mass ejection) arrived at Earth during the overnight hours of 16-17 Dec. Despite being a more direct CME arrival than originally forecast, when the CME arrived at Earth it lacked the the necessary magnetic field orientation to ramp up to higher than G1 levels.
