Precautionary Boil Order in Effect for Residents Along Forest Avenue

A precautionary boil order has been issued for homes along Forest Avenue from Joliet Street to Bishop Street due to a water main break near Gary Elementary School on Monday, July 22.

All residents in the affected area have been notified, and repairs are currently underway by contractors.

The precautionary boil order will remain in effect until at least Wednesday, July 24. Laboratory sampling is in progress to ensure the water meets drinking water regulations, expected to conclude within 24-36 hours. Upon confirmation of compliance, affected residents will receive a follow-up notice lifting the order.

During a boil water order, users of affected public water supplies should take these precautions to avoid consuming potentially contaminated water:

  • Use bottled water for drinking, cooking, washing fresh fruits and vegetables, handwashing, and tooth brushing.
  • If bottled water is unavailable, boil tap water vigorously for five minutes before use.
  • For dishwashing, use boiled or bottled water. If using tap water, immerse clean dishes for at least one minute in a sink of water containing one full tablespoon of regular household bleach.
  • Tap water may be used for bathing, showering, and household cleaning purposes.

Note: If tap water appears cloudy or contains particles, use bottled water instead.

Questions or concerns regarding the precautionary boil order may contact the City of West Chicago's Public Works Department at 630-293-2255.
