East County AWP Construction Update

In a major milestone for the project, an 18-inch diameter brine pipeline was successfully pulled underground near Santee Lakes. The pipeline was installed using a method called horizontal directional drilling, which entails pulling a length of pipeline through a pre-drilled tunnel, eliminating the need to trench. The roughly 2/3 mile pipeline was pulled over the course of approximately 20 hours.

Construction of the purified water pipeline that will transport water from Santee to Lake Jennings continues on Mast Boulevard past Dragoyle toward Fanita Parkway. Residents can expect continued lane closures and staging of equipment along Mast as this work continues. At Santee Lakes, the west side of the park has been reopened to visitors. Construction is ongoing to install wastewater and brine pipelines, and visitors can expect one-way traffic control with flaggers on the east side of the park near lake three.
