The working visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan to the Kingdom of Sweden commenced with a tête-à-tête meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Maria Stenergard, followed by an enlarged meeting in the format of a working lunch.
The interlocutors discussed the further prospects for enhancing high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Sweden, enriching the bilateral agenda and deepening cooperation. Key areas of mutual interest were identified aimed at fostering sectoral collaboration.
The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia noted: "This is my third visit to Sweden, but the first one in the bilateral format. Thank you for the hospitality and for the fruitful discussions aimed at deepening cooperation between our two countries across various domains, based on democratic principles, common values and interests. I am confident that with joint active efforts, we can fully realize the potential to expand our partnership both bilaterally and in the framework of the EU, including for further deepening of political dialogue, fostering trade, business ties and people-to-people contacts."
The current stage of the partnership between Armenia and EU, achievements and opportunities for further development of the new ambitious agenda were also touched upon.
The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Sweden exchanged views on issues of regional security and stability as well. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the vision of the Republic of Armenia on achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus, including through normalizing relations with neighbors and promoting economic development in the region. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia presented the efforts towards the conclusion of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the agreement reached in the border delimitation process between the two countries based on the Alma-Ata Declaration.
In the context of regional issues, the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative developed by the Government of the Republic of Armenia was touched upon. According to the Foreign Minister of Armenia, its implementation, unblocking of transport infrastructure would significantly enhance regional interconnectivity.
