Lt. Gov. Crouch, IHCDA launch crowdfunding campaign for Polk Stables: Art, Entrepreneurship and Stories

$50,000 goal to receive a matching grant through IHCDA's CreatINg Places program

INDIANAPOLIS (July 16, 2024) - Indianapolis residents will enjoy beautiful art and connect with local history if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $50,000 by Sept. 14, 2024. If successful, the project led by the Harrison Center for the Arts will receive a matching grant as part of IHCDA'sCreatINg Places program.

"This proposed enhancement of the historic Polk Stables building will add beauty and a sense of place to the Near Northside," said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana's Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. "The continued development of the building is a point of passion in this neighborhood and we are thrilled to see continued investment in the future of Indianapolis."

Funds from this campaign will be used to commission local artists for murals, add landscaping, display renovated historic signage and connect viewers to neighborhood history through augmented reality technology.

"The Creating Places program has been an incredible tool that has allowed our neighbors to tap into the power of art to solve community issues," said Joanna Taft, Executive Director of the Harrison Center. "It is incredible to see the Polk Stables building come to life."

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $11 million in public funds and an additional $9.3 million in matching IHCDA funds. The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
