Georgia Commission on Family Violence Honors Anne Marie Lugo with Task Force Member of the Year Award

ATHENS, GA - August 28, 2024 - The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) proudly announces that Anne Marie Lugo has been named this year's Task Force Member of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes an outstanding individual who works to end domestic violence in their community.

Anne Marie Lugo, a Senior Staff Attorney with Gwinnett Legal Aid, has been a relentless advocate for domestic violence survivors throughout her distinguished career. In her role, she manages family law cases and spearheads the Gwinnett Family Violence Project. This critical initiative assists survivors in securing and enforcing temporary protective orders in Gwinnett County, providing essential support to those in need.

"Anne Marie Lugo's unwavering dedication and quiet strength are exemplary of the highest standards of leadership and commitment," said Judge Paige Whitaker, Chair of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence. "Her profound impact through the Gwinnett Family Violence Project and her longstanding contributions to the Gwinnett Family Violence Task Force showcase her exceptional service. Anne Marie's tireless work has significantly impacted her community."

Anne Marie's contributions have been significant as a founding member and current secretary of the Gwinnett Family Violence Task Force. Her dedication has earned her several accolades, including the Gwinnett Pro Bono Project Volunteer of the Year Award and the Trailblazer Award from the Gwinnett Task Force. Over the past 20 years, she has been a quiet yet impactful force behind the scenes, consistently leading committees, supporting other initiatives, and providing invaluable resources and information to the community.

The Commission's 30th Annual Family Violence Conference was held in Athens from August 25 to 28, 2024. This year's theme is "Learning From the Past, Forging Ahead Together." Over 600 local and national stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, survivors, faith leaders, counselors, and community members, attended the conference.
