LENEXA, KAN. (AUG. 5, 2024) - EPA Region 7 invites the public to join an in-person informational session in Omaha, Nebraska, to help communities navigate EPA's Inflation Reduction Act investments and other new funding opportunities. This event aims to inform community leaders of new, historical funding opportunities and the impacts they can make.

EPA will hold the session on Thursday, Aug. 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The session will focus on EPA's Community Change Grant program and Environmental Justice (EJ) Thriving Communities Grantmaker subgrants. This once-in-a-lifetime financing and resources provide opportunities and technical assistance to help communities confront environmental pollution, climate change challenges, and create positive change in their communities.

This initiative seeks to highlight EPA programs designed to ensure that communities on the frontline of the climate crisis are benefiting from the public health, resilience, and economic opportunities unleashed by recent transformative appropriations.

The outreach event will also allow attendees to speak with EJ program staff and ask questions, highlight concerns, and learn more about EJ Grant programs. This session will also provide a unique opportunity for community members and organizations to engage with their peers, develop or leverage community-based partnerships, and workshop ideas together.

Through this event, EPA Region 7 is providing spaces for communities to develop new or deeper community-based partnerships. Attendees will learn about historic funding and technical assistance through programming that is designed to be especially helpful for overburdened communities. The event will help them confront the climate crisis and advance environmental justice locally as they learn, connect, and cultivate ideas on how to access these extraordinary resources.

Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
