IUIU Holds 3rd Edition of Run for Girl Child Education

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted the 3rd edition of the Run for Girl Child Education on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the female campus in Kabojja.

The event saw a vibrant mix of participants, including the Guest of Honor, Minister Barugahara Balam Atenyi, and the Rector of IUIU, Assoc Prof Ismail Ssimbwa Gyagenda, Students from IUIU and various secondary schools, such as Kampala High School, Gombe SS, Kasawo SS, and St. Mary's College Lugazi, also took part.

Minister Atenyi officially launched the run, waving the flag to start the participants on a route that included keypoints such as the Islamic University in Uganda, Mugwanya Preparatory School, Total Petrol Station, Busega Roundabout, Natete Market, and back to IUIU.

Upon their return, participants were provided with water, food, and snacks to help them recover, thanks to the numerous tents and stalls set up at the pitch.

The Guest of Honor commended IUIU for its noble cause in supporting the girl child and also pledged always to Support the Run whenever they reached out to him for it.

Prof Ismail emphasized the critical role of educating girls in national development, highlighted the event's aim to support female students who are underprivileged with regards to access to education, and also expressed concerns about talented students dropping out due to financial constraints and called for nationwide participation to increase access to education to females.

Director Females Campus Kabojja, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nabukeera Madinah expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, recognizing the efforts of the IUIU community and the event partners. The "Run for the Girl Child" 3rd edition was a resounding success, raising significant funds and leaving participants satisfied with their contributions to a meaningful cause.

"Run for Girl Education" is an annual event initiated by the Islamic University in Uganda (Females'Campus) in 2022 to improve access to higher education for female students to promote inclusivity in education for all and contribute to national development by addressing cultural and societal factors that contribute to the increased number of university dropouts among female students
