Spokesperson's Press Briefing (August 1, 2024)

Press Briefing

Spokesperson and Deputy Minister for Public Affairs Lee Jaewoong

August 1, 2024 14:30 KST

Good afternoon. Let me start today's briefing.

I have one announcement to make today with regard to bilateral relations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul will hold a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Maris Sangiampongsa on August 2.

Thailand is Korea's long-time friend that was the first Asian country to express its intention to send troops during the Korean War, as well as the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia.

The two countries have been continuously developing their Strategic Partnership since 2012.

In the upcoming meeting, the two sides will discuss ways to work together in a range of areas, including trade and investment, future industries, consular and employment cooperation, and culture.

Korea will also discuss ways to upgrade the ROK-ASEAN relations with Thailand, which will begin to serve as the Country Coordinator for ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations this month.

(A question-and-answer session followed.)
