Israeli Military Operation in Cities in the West Bank

The Brazilian government is closely monitoring, with concern, the Israeli military operation launched on August 28 in the cities of Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas in the northern West Bank, which has resulted in the deaths of at least ten Palestinians and significant material damage.

The Brazilian government warns that a possible evacuation of residents from the cities targeted by Israeli forces, mentioned in statements by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, could lead to further forced displacement of thousands of Palestinians, similar to the situation in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict.

Recalling the obligations imposed by the Geneva Conventions, as well as the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, the Brazilian government calls on the State of Israel, as an occupying power, to refrain from actions that could lead to the escalation of the Gaza conflict into the West Bank.
