Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti to Host POW/MIA Recognition Day at Home

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MVHDJJ) will host a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Recognition Day ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on September 20, 2024, at 425 Fisher St., Marquette.

The recognition ceremony will include remarks by Ron Oja, administrator of MVHDJJ, U.S. Air Force Veteran Howard Seid, who was recently awarded U.P. Veteran of the Year and U.S. Air Force Veteran and MVHDJJ Chaplain Dr. Jim Elenbaas. Captain Seth Beduhn of the Michigan National Guard 107th Engineer Battalion out of Ishpeming will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. A performance of Taps will be led by U.S. Navy Veteran Dan Jackovich with music by Linda Smith.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed on the third Friday in September and is a time to remember the sacrifices of POWs and service members who are MIA. On March 28, 1988, Ronald Reagan signed into law a separate holiday for National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day which is observed annually on April 9th.
