Australian delegation attending the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review (Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting) is being held in Bangkok from 19 to 21 November 2024.

The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was established in 2015 and adopted by 189 countries as a global blueprint for advancing women's and girls' human rights.

Ms Padma Raman PSM, Executive Director, Office for Women is representing Senator the Hon. Katy Gallagher, Minister for Women as head of Australia's delegation to the Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting. Other members of the Australian delegation include:

  • Ms Stephanie Copus Campbell, Australia's Ambassador for Gender Equality
  • Dr Anna Cody, Australia's Sex Discrimination Commissioner
  • Ms Joslyn Eades-Tass, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Womens Alliance
  • Ms Clare Gibellini, Women with Disabilities Australia

The Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting is convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. It brings together nations from the Asia-Pacific region, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to review the Asia-Pacific's progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

Nation states, including Australia, submitted their national review of action to progress gender equality to UNESCAP in 2024. Whilst significant progress has been made towards advancing women's human rights and gender equality, no country has fully realised the Beijing agenda. The Beijing+30 Regional Review meeting provides nations from across the region the opportunity to strengthen cooperation to achieve a more safe, inclusive and equitable future for all women and girls, for which all of society benefits.
