Congresswoman Frederica Wilson issued the following statement after President Biden Announced Clemency for nearly 1,500 Americans:
"Today's announcement from President Biden is a powerful reminder that justice includes compassion and the opportunity for redemption. By granting clemency to nearly 1,500 individuals and pardoning 39 nonviolent offenders, he's reaffirming America's commitment to second chances and fairness. These decisions honor the progress made by those who've worked to rebuild their lives and contribute to their communities. I thank President Biden for his action today, but our work isn't done yet," Congresswoman Frederica Wilson said. "President Biden still has a little over a month left in office, and I hope he uses that time to build on today's decision by pardoning more nonviolent offenders and more deserving folks who have turned their lives around. This especially includes Black men who have disproportionately suffered from mass incarceration for non-violent offenses. By extending clemency to more deserving individuals, he can further solidify his legacy of compassion and justice in his final days in office."
